Why was Family Orthodontics established?

Dr. Christine Lee of Children’s Dentistry of Lake County has proudly served the Lake County community for over 30 years. Throughout that time, many families have expressed a desire for orthodontic services within the same trusted environment. In response to these requests, Family Orthodontics of Lake County has been established under Dr. Lee’s leadership to offer comprehensive orthodontic care for children and families.

To lead this new chapter, Dr. Lee has partnered with Dr. Thomas Lim, a respected orthodontist with deep roots in the Lake County area. Dr. Lee and Dr. Lim have known each other since 2002 through a family connection, and they share a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality dental care.

Dr. Lim was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Lake County, where he now resides with his wife, Dr. Esther Lim (a fellow dentist), and their two children, Norah and Benny. Outside of the office, Dr. Lim enjoys biking, fly fishing, and traveling with his family.

With Family Orthodontics of Lake County, Dr. Lee and Dr. Lim are excited to offer continuity of care in a familiar, family-friendly setting — helping local smiles grow with confidence.

As a former Mechanical Engineer, Dr Lim began using 3-D technologies for rapid prototyping over 20 years ago. In fact, he was one of the first students to utilize 3-D scanning and manufacturing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign through a research grant awarded by Ford Motor Company. Coincidentally, the technologies that have been used for decades in the Mechanical Engineering industry, more recently have found their way to the Orthodontic field.

His graduate studies led him to the University of Illinois at Chicago where he obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery, as well as a Masters in Oral Sciences with an emphasis on Biomaterials. Thereafter, he attended the University of Rochester (New York), which is a renown program which places an emphasis on craniofacial growth and development.

Dr. Lim’s clinical interests include the utilization of 3-D design and planning in order to achieve increased treatment efficiency with predictable and high quality results.  He also served as an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University where he lectured extensively on the topics of Biomechanics and Craniofacial Growth & Development
